KickStart Ghana Projects

Our projects focus on the promotion of sport and education, and the undoubted positive impact that this can have on personal and community development.

Renovation of schools

We offer grants to local education bodies to invest in their infrastructure.

Teaching in local schools

During term time, we look to place volunteers with teaching qualifications and experience into schools, to assist with teaching. It is one of the best ways of promoting cultural exchange, as both our volunteers and the Ghanaian teachers can learn from one another and the approaches that they take to teaching. The can be achieved through the exchange of skills, or sharing the often large workload with teachers employed by the school.

Summer clubs

Each summer KickStart Ghana works with a local school for their children for a section of their children to attend a summer school and reading club.

The project is focuses on non-compulsory and extra-curricular education. The summer schools have three key aims:

  • To increase the educational attainment of the students
  • To help increase the opportunities available for extra-curricular activities
  • To broaden the experiences of the teachers involved in the school.

The school will give children much better access to Ghanaian teachers (18 to 1) to work on the following core curriculum subjects:

  • Math
  • Science
  • English
  • Citizenship

The programme is also designed to have lessons that focussed on extra-curricular development. The four key focus areas were:

  • Physical development
  • Social and emotional development
  • Language and communication skills
  • Cognitive development

These lessons are delivered by a mixture of Ghanaian and European volunteers, all with the relevant skills and training.

Sports/football coaching

Volunteers with sports coaching qualifications and experience have been responsible for the continued coaching of Dynamo FC. Dynamo consists of three boy’s teams, a men’s team and is currently in the process of setting up a girls’ team. Volunteers are responsible for planning, carrying out and reviewing coaching sessions on week days. During term time our sports volunteers help out with PE sessions in local schools, and arrange sporting based community sessions for children in the holidays.
